Why Does the Fifth Street Church Exist?
It is the purpose of the 5th Street Church of Christ to....
...Connect people with Jesus Christ and membership within His body, developing Christlike maturity, and equipping them for works of the ministry and mission in our community, in order to magnify God!
Worship
"Love the Lord with all your heart"
Fifth Street exists to worship God. We demonstrate our love for God by worshipping Him with all our heart, mind and soul! We gather to express our love for Him. We gather to celebrate His presence and His grace. We gather to exalt His Name above all other names.
"O magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt His name."
—Psalm 34:3
Ministry
"Love your neighbor as yourself"
Fifth Street exists to minister to people. Ministry shows God's love through acts of service. The objective in ministry is to met needs in the name of Jesus Christ. Jesus said that even a cup of cold water given in His name is ministering and will not go unrewarded. The church is to
"...equip the saints for the work of ministry."
—Ephesians 4:12
Evangelism
"Go and make disciples"
Fifth Street exists to communicate the Gospel. We are Christ's ambassadors, and our mission is to encourage the growth of Christ's church by sharing His message. It is our responsibility, no, our great privilege to share the message of Jesus Christ with our community and our world.
"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
—Matthew 28:19-20
Fellowship
"Baptizing them"
Fifth Street exists to help people identify with Jesus in His death, in His burial and in His resurrection. Why is baptism so important? Because we are called to belong; belong to God and belong to one another. We are members of His church. We give and receive support from fellow Christians as a result of our fellowship with Jesus in baptism.
"...and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also-not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ."
—1 Peter 3:21
Discipleship
"Teaching them to obey"
Fifth Street exists to edify, or educate, God's people. Discipleship is the process of becoming more like Jesus in all aspects of life. We are to develop people to spiritual maturity.
"...so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."
—Ephesians 4:12b-13
